Easy Listening: Andrew Belle

Easy Listening: Andrew Belle

I suddenly got inspired to write a blog about Andrew Belle, a dude with happiness in his voice.

I came across Andrew Belle, when I listened to Meghan Tonjes singing In my veins. I totally loved the cover and wanted to hear more from the original artist. So it began: I discovered his album, the ladder, and since then his music has been a standard selected song in my iTunes. His song Add it up is my most played number 5 on iTunes, and I have much more from him in my top 20. Here’s why I kept listening to his music, and why it didn’t bored me like most songs eventually do.

Andrew Belle’s voice is easy; he doesn’t scream, he has one sound and his voice isn’t ugly. He doesn’t use automatic robotic voice overs, or auto tune. The music he uses is relaxing, never dies and a nice variety on for example pop or rap music. But what is his genre? Wikipedia writes pop and rock. iTunes says indie. I find his music rather more towards indie then pop or rock. His style isn’t completely indie in all fairness: if you compare him with Lykke Li and Bon Iver, he is more pop then indie. But he certainly has a more unique and original sound then many pop artists have, so that brings him again closer to indie. It’s too hard to give one genre to him, he’s just that talented.

I played his album the Ladder while leveling my World of Warcraft toon, around 5 months ago, along with Kanye West and Bon Iver (and of course some other). What I’m trying to say here is that his music is great as back up tracks. That’s probably why I go to the next song when I get him on my iPod. I don’t like his music as just a song while staring outside, sitting in a bus. I’ve heard his songs to much for that. No, I think his music is my back up music. Songs I play while doing something else.

His music doesn’t get me bored, keeps me happy and gives a positive vibe. If you’re searching for that, go en start listening!
